Robert Lewandowski admits Barcelona asked him to stop scoring for financial reasons

Robert Lewandowski has confirmed an almost unbelievable story that Barcelona asked him to stop scoring goals.

The story hit the headlines earlier this year that the cash-strapped club needed the Pole to avoid hitting 25 LaLiga goals in his debut season or a €2.5million bonus clause would have to be paid.

Lewandowski has now confirmed the story, saying on Bogdan Rymanowski‘s YouTube channel: “There are things I prefer not to talk about.

“I have a lot of respect for Barcelona and everyone who works there. I was aware of the club’s situation.

“There were many other situations to resolve for the good of the club. I knew that, at that moment, Barça was looking at every euro. And it wasn’t a small thing.

“For me, nothing changed. I have no problem with that, but it’s something that’s etched in my memory. I even wondered if I could score.”

Recently linked with Chicago Fire in MLS, he was also asked about a transfer and responded: “I don’t talk to the coach about the possible interest from other clubs. The decision will depend on what Barça wants and what I consider to be best.”
