Thibaut Courtois’ Atletico Madrid legends plaque to be ripped out ahead of fan vote

Thibaut Courtois’ plaque on Atletico Madrid’s ‘Walk of Legends’ outside of their Metropolitano Stadium will be removed with fans to vote on a new line up.

The plaque was regularly defaced after Courtois’ move to rivals Real Madrid, and it was even pulled out with a shovel by fans after the Belgian clashed with Diego Simeone during a derby.

Atleti had already announced plans to change the commemorative walk to the ‘Walk of Legends’ and they’ve now revealed a shortlist with Courtois unsurprisingly not on it.

Not only does it mean that the Real No.1 can be removed, but club greats like David Villa and Luis Suarez who played fewer than 100 matches but won titles can now be added.

Fans can decide if they want that to be the case with members voting from Boxing Day up until January 5th.
