Diego Simeone’s long-time assistant sensationally hits out at ‘backwards’ tactics

Diego Simeone‘s latest Atletico Madrid rebuild has been given a brutal blow by his former assistant.

Simeone’s Atleti lost 5-3 to Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana semi-finals, and things could quickly get worse.

They play their city rivals two more times in the space of 30 days, in both the Copa del Rey and LaLiga.

Three defeats from three could for once see Simeone under huge pressure, and his former assistant hasn’t helped.

Germán Burgos was his countryman’s assistant for nine years at both Racing Club and Atelti, and has finally had enough of Simeone’s defensive tactics.

“I’m very angry,” Burgos said on Movistar.

“In the game, beyond the attacking and the strategy, there is a team that is looking two steps forward and the other that is looking two or three steps back.

“So, that is the difference that saw Madrid take the victory.”
