Ligue 1 side Rennes have issued an unprecedented statement slamming former Chelsea and Manchester United man Nemanja Matic.
The Serbian midfielder has left the French team to secure a January transfer, and has reportedly arrived in London to bag a Premier League return.
Responding to the news, Rennes said: “Nemanja Matic, midfielder of Stade Rennais FC, did not show up for the last training sessions of the professional group to which he had been called up.
“This behaviour is completely incomprehensible from a player under contract until 2025.
“Naturally, sensitive to the personal well-being of our players, the club wishes to remind you that all the necessary provisions have been implemented to allow Matic and his family to integrate perfectly.
“Stade Rennais FC has always done everything possible to put its players, especially foreigners, in the best possible conditions so that they can express their talent on the pitch.
“The club now awaits the player’s explanations and is determined to subsequently take all necessary measures to preserve its interests.”
According to RMC Sport, Matic is ready to cancel his Rennes contract which expires in 2025, although it is not clear which club he’s heading to.
