Didi Hamann lives his punditry career on the limit, but this time he’s gone too far.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder has been accused of taking current manager Thomas Tuchel‘s comments out of context in a sensational club statement.

Bayern‘s squad made their annual visit to fan groups across Germany, and at one Tuchel was asked about his experiences managing abroad with Chelsea and PSG, and if he would like to do it again.

During an exchange he said it would appeal to him in the future, calling LaLiga ‘extraordinary’ and complimenting Spanish players’ mentalities.

Hamann went on the attack, but seemingly took the comments out of context, saying on Sky: “He sits down and talks about Xavi, about the successor and that he would like to train in Barcelona or Spain.

“He’s a very intelligent man, something like that doesn’t just slip out of his mouth.”

Hamann went on to call the comments an ‘impudence’ and said Tuchel was the worst fit for Bayern since Jurgen Klinsmann, something that infuriated the club.

In a public statement co-signed by sporting director Christoph Freund and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern didn’t name Hamann, but made their point clear.

The statement read: “Our head coach Thomas Tuchel was asked by supporters on Sunday as part of a fan club visit about his coaching career and his previous experiences abroad at Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, and naturally provided information about this during the discussion.

“He also answered general questions from fans about Spain as a footballing country.

“He never spoke about Xavi Hernández and his successor, as was falsely claimed afterwards.

“We will no longer accept such non-factual statements directed against our coach, which always come from the same source.”
