Jose Mourinho put on a show in his latest Benfica press conference, but there wasn’t much to laugh about.
Benfica drew 2-2 with Braga, virtually ending their faint Primeira Liga title hopes as they’re now a massive 10 points off leaders Sporting.
According to Mourinho, the gap should be just eight, as a strike from Samuel Dahl was wrongly ruled out by VAR in the 74th minute.
A Braga defender was bumped off the ball by Richard Rios in the build up and Mourinho couldn’t believe his assist for Dahl’s tap-in was overturned to leave the score 2-2.
“Great victory,” he began in his press conference.
“In the first half, SC Braga was better than us; we had a short period where we were superior and scored from a set piece. But SC Braga was better.
“In the second half, there was no SC Braga, only Benfica. The players took responsibility, turned the game around, and won 3-2. Excellent result for us, with all due respect to SC Braga.”
With reporters unsure what to say in response to the irony, Mourinho continued: “We won 3-2, I saw our third goal from the bench.
“While still on the bench I saw it again and again, probably on the same monitor that VAR was watching, a clean goal. We won, a great victory, we won, we won, we won.”
