Ivan Rakitic couldn’t hold it in during his second Sevilla farewell.
The club legend said goodbye to the Spanish side for the second time, giving them some much-needed cash with a move to Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
A two-time Europa League winner during separate spells, Rakitic re-joined Sevilla in 2020 after a trophy-winning stint at Barcelona.
He leaves with the most appearances of any foreign player, and let the tears flow as he explained he didn’t really want to depart.
“I still can’t understand why I’m not going to see the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán grass again,” he said. “Everything has gone very quickly.
“There were only a few days left. I appreciate the president’s treatment these days.”
Turning his aim on manager Quique Sanchez Flores, he continued: “I saw myself capable of being the undisputed starter.
“We players do not have to understand all the decisions, but rather accept them. And the new coach’s idea is not the same as mine.
“I have played all my life and I wanted to be on the field. I wanted to help Sevilla on the field. I didn’t want to be sitting on the bench collecting what I had left. I wanted to be there until the last day of my career as a footballer.”
