After his bombshell interview changed the course of the Barcelona presidential elections, Xavi has spoken out again.
A former player, captain and head coach under Joan Laporta, the midfield icon backed his rival Victor Font in the elections and later made things far worse.
Xavi claimed Lionel Messi was ready to return in 2023 when he was coach and that the deal was all agreed only for Laporta to call it off.
Xavi hit Laporta in the weakest point of his re-election campaign and now the race is wide open as his relationship with Messi has long been his kryptonite.
Laporta dug Xavi out in the press, saying that he was being ‘used’ by Font, and that he was lashing out as Hansi Flick won with the same set of players.
Now after a week of his name in the headlines, Xavi has made another small statement.
Breaking his silence on Instagram, he wrote: “Many years full of hard work, many goals we’ve celebrated, and it’s been proven that no one will ever be able to break us.
“Always with the truth! Always with Barça in our hearts! Visca el Barça!”
What did Laporta say about Xavi?
Responding to Xavi’s claims, Laporta said: “I understand that he’s hurt because, with the same players, Xavi was losing and Hansi Flick is winning.
“He’s allowed himself to be used by [presidential opponent Victor] Font.”
