It took a little while, but Xavi Simons is now one of the best young players in world football, and clubs are queuing up for his services.
The 21-year-old spent 2023/24 on loan at Leipzig from PSG, the club he joined from Barcelona in 2019.
Set for stardom from a very young age, now in the Bundesliga he’s proven himself as an elite youngster thanks to the game time he’s been afforded by Leipzig.
Due to his displays, Leipzig want to keep him, and Kicker report that the feeling is mutual. The case for him continuing in East Germany is further strengthened by Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff possessing a strong relationship with PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
However, PSG head coach Luis Enrique has already talked up a return next season, and he’s not the only manager of a European giant keen to field Simons next season.
Former club Barcelona have expressed an interest on loan, and now Sky Germany claim that they have competition from Bayern Munich.
Bayern, though, aren’t just thinking about a loan, the outlet reports that a full deal could be on the cards, with sporting director Max Eberl, who signed Simons for Leipzig in the first place, eyeing an offer in the range of €60-70million.
There’s more though. Mundo Deportivo have also exclusively claimed that Simons has a clause in his contract allowing him to choose where he’s loaned, and that he would be keen on a Barcelona return if he’s not sold.
Whatever happens out of the four scenarios, one thing’s clear – Simons, or ‘Xavi’ as he’s now known – is a wanted man.
