Xabi Alonso has tried to put an end to his argument with Vinicius Jr, but not everyone is convinced.
The pair came to blows during Real Madrid‘s 2-1 Clasico win over Barcelona when Vini fumed at a 72nd minute substitution.
His angry reaction took some of the headlines from an impressive win, and Alonso tried to dampen things post-match.
Now speaking ahead of facing Valencia, Alonso considers the matter over.
“We had a meeting with everyone on Wednesday, and Vinicius was impeccable,” he said.
“He spoke sincerely and was very good. For me, the matter is closed.
“It was a very valuable, very positive statement. He demonstrated his honesty; he spoke from the heart. The most important thing is what he said, and I was very satisfied. The issue was closed on Wednesday.”
However, many consider the matter not over, with Vinicius leaving Alonso out of his public apology.
He said sorry to his teammates, the fans and the club president, but didn’t mention his coach.
Giving his take, former Atletico Madrid man turned coach Gabi Fernandez said: “Obviously, as soon as the match is over, you have to talk to him.
“He can’t let time pass, have him issue a statement, and then not mention the coach. It’s unacceptable; it’s egocentric in my opinion.”
