Toni Kroos has had enough of Real Madrid pundits comparing their current midfielders to him.
The six-time Champions League winner retired in 2024, and with Luka Modric and Casemiro also departing the Bernabeu, things haven’t gone so swimmingly.
Pundits have regularly harked back to Kroos’ era, and amid a current bad run of form, one of the most prominent voices in Madrid went even further.
AS editor Tomas Roncero said Real have gone from the best midfield of all time to players out of the gym who can’t play football, and now Kroos has responded.
“Talking about those who were there before doesn’t help anyone,” he said on his podcast.
“I don’t need them to tell me they miss me. I’m the first one who’d prefer Madrid to win so this can stop.”
He added on the team’s current situation: “I’m coaching a youth team, I don’t have much advice for Xabi right now.
“We are from two different generations. It’s important to adapt to what you have.
“I’m not saying one is better than the other, they are different types of players, but that doesn’t mean better or worse. It’s a different way of playing.”
