Jose Mourinho’s latest Benfica press conference saw a moment of brilliance from a reporter.
The 2010 European treble winner was speaking ahead of a huge Lisbon derby against Sporting with his future in focus.
Mourinho continues to insist he wants to stay at Benfica, but reports in England claim Newcastle want him, while in Portugal they say he’s on Real Madrid’s shortlist.
One reporter from RTP was desperate to clear things up with the coach, asking if he could ‘guarantee’ he’d be at Benfica next season.
“Can you guarantee you’ll be at RTP next season?” Mourinho replied.
To which the journalist responded: “I can, because nobody wants me.”
Mourinho cracked up like rarely seen and it took a good while for things to settle down.
In another question over his future, Mourinho was asked about previous comments that he’d sign a 10 year deal as it’s Benfica.
“I can’t say something like that because it doesn’t depend solely on me,” he said this time around.
“A coach, a player, a director, a kit man… I think you probably can’t guarantee that you’ll be in your newspaper for the next 10 years. Of course I can’t guarantee it.”
