One of LaLiga’s most outspoken players, Thibaut Courtois, has savaged the league’s president over his handling of Barcelona’s match in Miami.
Javier Tebas has been a big proponent of Barcelona’s clash against Villarreal in the US and he’s been hit with a backlash, at least by Spanish standards.
Almost everyone in a playing capacity has spoken out against the game, including Hansi Flick and any of his Barca players that have been asked.
Added to that, LaLiga players staged a protest of sorts during the last round of fixtures, refusing to move for the first ten seconds of each match.
LaLiga responded by not showing the protests, instead exterior shots of stadiums, and Courtois is outraged.
Discussing Tebas, the Belgian said: “I don’t know why it surprises you, it’s been going on for a while.
“Making public responses on social media… I’ve never seen a president of LaLiga speak like this and hide it.
“What’s more, changing why we’re protesting is censorship and manipulation, and that’s serious.”
Giving his condemnation of the match, he added: “It adulterates the competition.
“It’s easy to talk about the NBA, the NFL… they have 82 games played in a playoff spot that doesn’t change anything for them.
“LaLiga puts it in because they feel like it and it adulterates the competition. Furthermore, it doesn’t comply with the players’ agreement.
“It’s not right. Playing outside of LaLiga is complicated, as happened to us against Real Sociedad, Getafe… Villarreal away is a difficult match.
“Everyone has to play at home or away, except in cases of force majeure.”
