One of the modern day faces of Sporting, Pedro Goncalves couldn’t resist a dig or two at Ruben Amorim.
The midfielder was key under the Manchester United coach during their two title triumphs together, and has been crucial again after him.
Sporting won the Primeira Liga on the final day of the season despite a campaign of upheaval due to Amorim’s November departure to United.
So speaking post-match, Goncalves was sure to make it clear the old boss didn’t need any credit for the triumph completed under Rui Borges.
Speaking on the pitch post-match, presenter Guilherme Geirinhas said: “I just want you to swear eternal love for Sporting.”
To which Goncalves replied to much laughter: “Like Amorim, right? He said things and then regretted them.”
Later on the team’s celebrations in Lisbon he made another reference to Amorim, imitating the coach’s famous microphone drop speech from the previous summer.
Amorim remarked that ‘they said we couldn’t win back-to-back titles’ and ‘we couldn’t win with fans in the stands’ before adding a ‘let’s see’ and dropping the mic.
Goncalves replicated him this time, saying ‘they said we couldn’t win without Amorim’ and also Hugo Viana and Viktor Gyokeres before another ‘let’s see’ and mic drop.
