Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos finally has a new club, but he’s used his Monterrey signing to mock old rivals Atletico Madrid for their darkest night.
The Spanish centre-back has rocked up in Liga MX having not played for almost a year since leaving Sevilla.
Ramos arrived with a lucrative contract which includes shirt sale money and goal bonuses ahead of the team’s appearance at the 2025 Club World Cup.
But, for Ramos, it’s always about Madrid, and he made sure troll Atleti in spectacular fashion.
The 38-year-old has chosen the shirt number 93 at Monterrey, which was the minute he scored against Atleti in the 2014 Champions League final.
That last-gasp equaliser earned Real extra time, and they ended up winning 4-1, earning their 10th European Cup and keeping Atleti winless in the competition.
Speaking at his unveiling, he said: “It’s a tribute to Real Madrid, but also to my career.”
Ramos also has the number tattooed on his fingers, and recently got it on the side of his head, with the other side sporting the number 15 which he wore for much of his career.
