Enrique Riquelme’s Real Madrid presidential campaign continues to gather momentum with two more big signings.
The challenger to Florentino Perez had already highlighted his unpopularity among some club legends by bringing a pair into the fold.
The 37-year-old billionaire has announced Raul as his sporting director and Fernando Hierro as academy director.
Now, in the past 24 hours, he’s added Iker Casillas as one of the club’s directors, with the goalkeeper a footballing legend.
And he’s since said that iconic Madrid and Spain coach Vicente del Bosque will join as an advisor.
On top of that, he’s pledged signing of Erling Haaland has had some backing.
Riquelme announced the Manchester City striker as one of two players he will bring to Madrid if he’s elected along with Rodri.
City responded condemning the comments and even threatening legal action, but Riquelme has since made it a binding election promise and agreed to may member fees if it doesn’t get done.
Pictures of a meeting with Haaland in 2021 have also emerged, but City continue to deny his claims of a release clause in the Norwegian’s contract.
Yet insiders are backing Riquelme.
Speaking on leading Spanish radio outlet Cadena SER, Antón Meana said he’d reached out to numerous club executives to ask about the claim.
He explained: “The big European clubs we’ve spoken to say that the possibility of signing Haaland is real.
“They told us that Haaland’s release clause exists and all the clubs in Europe know about it.
“So if you can reach an agreement with Haaland, it’s not difficult to get him out of England.”
He added: “The market sources consulted were unaware if Riquelme had any kind of agreement with the Norwegian, but they did know that he is open to listening.
“The major European clubs and top-level agents we consulted say that it’s something the market takes for granted, that Haaland’s release clause does exist.”
