Spanish billionaire Enrique Riquelme is preparing to challenge Florentino Perez for the Real Madrid presidency.
Multiple reports claim that the climate change entrepreneur was not surprised by Perez’s call out on Tuesday night where he announced new elections.
Perez told challengers to come forward in an attempt to strengthen his position after two trophyless seasons and chaos in the dressing room and dugout.
He mentioned a ‘man with a Mexican accent’ which is Riquelme.
“That gentleman who’s been talking about it and has a South American accent, let him come and introduce himself with his people,” – Perez on Riquelme

Although the 37-year-old currently resides in Mexico, he was born in Cox, a town in Alicante, which one of his companies is named after.
Who is Perez’s challenger Enrique Riquelme?
The Cox Group is a renewable energy company which Riquelme is the president of and it operates in more than 30 countries.
They specialise in solar energy, hydraulic infrastructure, and water treatment, mainly in Europe and Latin America.
Riquelme recently made headlines in the financial world with a $4billion purchase of Iberdrola Mexico and a record-breaking bond issuance in the United States worth $2 billion.
He’s also listed by numerous financial institutes as one of the world’s leading figures in the fight against climate change.
As such, Riquelme has the backing of numerous Real Madrid legends, as per MARCA.
They reference a recent event by the Real Madrid supporters’ club where he was flanked by Pedja Mijatovic and Fernando Sanz.
Asked for comment by MARCA, a source told the Madrid outlet: “For now, we will have to wait for the process to officially begin.”
