LaLiga president Javier Tebas has torn into Real Madrid after the club refused to attend a meeting between the league, Football Federation [RFEF] and Technical Committee of Referees.
On Monday, Los Blancos made headlines when they sent a letter to the league complaining about ‘double standards’ in refereeing after Espanyol’s Carlos Romero was lucky to avoid a red card for a tackle on Kylian Mbappe during a 1-0 win for the Catalan side.
The meeting of federations was set up to try and soothe affairs, but it’s understood that once opposition clubs decided they wanted to criticise Madrid’s alleged pressure on referees, the champions refused to attend.
Remarking on the decision after a three-hour meeting, Tebas, who is a Madrid fan himself, said: “They have lost their heads. Florentino Perez is against everything and wants to harm the competition.
“They have constructed a narrative of victimhood, the icing on the cake being the statement they issued the other day. They have been following a narrative of victimhood that is not true.
“He always wants to be right, the ideal situation for Florentino Perez would be for us all to get on our knees.”
Tebas then went on to reveal the league are considering protesting Madrid’s letter about the Espanyol match and beyond.
“We are going to see if a complaint is filed against the club, against the person who signed the letter, against the board of directors,” he said.
“We are analysing it at a legal level, because, obviously, this type of note cannot be allowed, because there are falsehoods in the note itself, or half-truths that, what they want, is to influence issues that cannot be. They have no choice but to end up doing this. They have lost their minds.”
