After Carlo Ancelotti’s non-commital criticism of the FIFA Club World Cup, Dani Carvajal went in two-footed with his manager right next to him.
Ancelotti earlier made headlines in an Italian interview by saying Real Madrid wouldn’t play in the expanded competition, something he said he was misquoted on, with both the outlet and journalist firmly rebuffing.
However, Carvajal has now made sure he won’t be misconstrued by slamming the competition in front of a packed press room ahead of a European Super Cup tie with Atalanta.
“It makes no sense, it is impossible to maintain the level with so many matches and trips between continents, as will be the case with the Club World Cup,” he said.
“I think that the competent authorities should analyse the situation, because it is practically impossible to play 72 matches per season.
“The level is dropping, the matches are dropping in quality and it is us and our families who suffer.”
