Three-time Dutch international Rick Karsdorp hasn’t played football since an appearance for PSV 10 months ago, and has now confirmed he won’t be coming back.
Formerly also of Roma and Feyenoord, Karsdorp has told ESPN that he’s calling it quits at 30 to look after his autistic son.
“At a certain point in your life, you start thinking about what I can do for him,” he said.
“You want the best for your child. Your children are everything. Then you think about how you can give him the best life.
“Should I send him to a special school or a private school? What’s best for your child? That’s what I’ve been working on.
“He’s in a private school now. We’re renovating the house so he has his own space. That’s basically it.
“At some point, it becomes part of everyday life. But you want to do the best you can for your children.
“That’s everything. It’s what you’re actually working on every day, when you look at it like that.
“That wasn’t 100% the reason I quit football. There are several things, but that definitely plays a role.”
