PSV captain Jerdy Schouten couldn’t believe what he saw from both Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk.
The Netherlands midfielder led his side to a famous 4-1 win at Anfield, which was started by Netherlands teammate Van Dijk punching a corner out of the air for a sixth minute penalty.
Schouten had his arms around his rival captain, but the decision to raise his arm was completely bizarre, and Schouten had to comment on it post-match.
“I gave him a tiny push,” he said. “But when you’re as big as Virgil, you should be able to handle that, right?”
The Dutch regular continued: “It’s abnormal, honestly. Fantastic, I’m so proud.
“Of course, they had a lot of possession, but we defended so well as a team. We should really be proud of that.
“Ultimately, I think we created the best chances. They’re very dangerous from corners, and I think Virgil headed every ball that went up in the air. But otherwise, we were very good.”
