Porto drew 1-1 with Sporting in a Portuguese classic on Monday night, but it’s a miracle the Lisbon side didn’t lose their minds.
Porto were on course to end the Primeira Liga title race with Seko Fofana’s 76th minute opener, but a penalty from Luis Suarez in the 10th minute of stoppage time kept the gap at four points.
The night before the match, fireworks were let off outside Sporting’s hotel in an attempt from Porto fans to disrupt their preparations.
And before they new it, Porto as a club went after the Sporting fans.
Arriving at the Dragao, black clothes covered the away end, and fans in attendance claim hidden loudspeakers played out boos and whistles when they began chanting for their team.
On top of that, there was more for the Lions players, with Sporting released images of the away locker room covered in framed newspaper front pages of the club’s achievements over the years.
Porto have since responded saying the posters have been in place since September for fans visiting the stadium, a story corroborated by other away teams.
Francesco Farioli‘s side also commented on complaints that the Sporting locker room’s temperature was set to its maximum, claiming the air conditioning in that part of the stadium is centralised.
Porto deny allegations
According to Record, the club hasn’t responded to the alleged loudspeakers in the away end.
On the pitch the trolling continued. Sporting goalkeeper Rui Silva had several towels stolen from behind his goal which he was using to dry his gloves – a repeat of the AFCON final.
And on top of that, with the game in its dying minutes, ball boys were captured during the live game holding onto balls in an apparent act of timewasting, rather than leaving them pitch side.
