Arouca midfielder Morlaye Sylla is a surprise omission from Guinea’s AFCON squad due to allegations he made of theft.
Sylla made allegations of theft against both the coach and players of the Guinea team.
Consequently, as reported by the country’s newspaper ‘Le Quotidien,’ he was excluded from the squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations scheduled to take place early next year.
According to the publication, the incident unfolded after a match against Brazil in June, where the Guinea team suffered a 4-1 defeat.
Sylla had exchanged jerseys with Vinicius Junior, but to his dismay, the Brazilian player’s jersey mysteriously vanished in the locker room.
The midfielder did not hesitate to point fingers at his teammates, also accusing coach Kaba Diawara of theft.
He insisted on a thorough search of all bags and belongings, resulting in heightened tension within the team.
As per ‘Le Quotidien,’ Sylla never issued an apology for the incident, leading to his omission from Diawara’s squad for the competition.
Guinea are set to start their tournament against Cameroon on January 15, followed by matches against Gambia and Senegal.
