Jobe Bellingham took some unwanted headlines in his first Der Klassiker, but Nico Kovac wasn’t having any of it.
Michael Olise scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win for Bayern Munich over Borussia Dortmund, but he had some help from Bellingham.
Bayern were 1-0 up with 11 minutes to play when Bellingham intercepted a Luis Diaz pull-back in the box, but then as he stumbled to clear it the ball went in off Olise.
Discussing the move post-match, BVB coach Kovac said: “I don’t see any blame with Jobe.
“He stands where he has to stand, the ball is played in quickly which means that it’s not going straight into the goal but it’s an art to defuse the situation.
“Of course he has to get it to stop at some point, he falls down with his hand and that’s the small moment where Olise comes from behind and makes the tackle.
“It is not so easy so there’s no guilt there, that’s all absolutely fine, the boys that came in the second half did a good job, they were really challenged.
“The result was tight but it showed that we can keep up with Bayern Munich.”
