Renato Sanches was left stunned when Jose Mourinho reversed his decision to bring the midfielder onto the pitch in Roma’s 2-0 defeat to Bologna.
Sanches was called upon at half-time in the damaging loss, and just 18 minutes later, Mourinho took him back off the pitch.
The 26-year-old PSG loanee looked absolutely stunned by the call, which Mourinho has since apologized for.
“I want to publicly apologize to Renato because what I felt I had to do was very hard, but it’s even harder for a coach,” he told DAZN.
“I think I’ve done this 3 or 4 times in my career, and I’m sorry.”
The former Inter coach also addressed his future in Rome when asked about the traveling support, saying: “They are special and it would be difficult to separate from these fans.
“If I were to part ways with them, it would never be my own choice. Never.”
