Memphis Depay is in a panic having had his passport stolen before heading back to the Netherlands for their latest World Cup qualifiers.
The Dutch football association [KNVB] reported the news that the Corinthians forward had the item stolen in Brazil.
Worse than that is the fact that Depay became his country’s all-time top scorer with two goals away in Lithuania last time out.
He was due to get a hero’s welcome on October 12 in his first home match since surpassing Robin van Persie’s 50 goals with his 51st and 52nd.
However, he’s now in a rush to sort a short-term solution ahead of that fixture.
Commenting on the issue, head coach Ronald Koeman said: “This is unfortunate, primarily for Memphis, but also for us.
“You naturally want to start preparations for an international break with a full squad. At the same time, there’s a situation beyond our control.
“We hope he can indeed travel to join us in training camp as soon as possible.”
