Out of a Ligue 1 title fight they were never really in, Marseille aren’t handling the news well.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have now lost two in three and are a mammoth 16 points behind typical French champions PSG.
Their latest defeat was to RC Lens, and their fans were quick to troll the ultimate troll, Neal Maupay, on social media.
Responding to one such post, Marseille‘s mayor, Éric Diard, rather shockingly replied: “Well done and don’t forget to all go to bed with your family after a good drink.”
To another tweet, he wrote: “Have a good Sunday. Between blood relatives?”
His counterpart mayor of Lens, Sylvain Robert, has since filed a complaint, but Diard has responded in classic fashion with pure denial.
“I am not the source of the horrible tweets about Lens and the people of Lens, I have always had respect for Lens,” he said.
“I only tweet from my phone and someone I know went onto my computer without my knowledge and got stupidly angry without telling me.”
