Manuel Neuer’s injury against Bayer Leverkusen prompted chaos at the Allianz Arena.
The Bayern Munich captain, who really should know better after a mid-season skiing accident last year, was forced out of the 3-0 Champions League win due to an injury while celebrating Jamal Musiala’s goal.
Neuer was down for four minutes getting treatment before he came off, which was thankfully enough time for Sven Ulreich to get his act together.
The Bayern No.2 was rather oddly in the stands with his wife when the incident occurred and had to sprint down to get changed and ready for action.
Vincent Kompany instead called on 21-year-old Jonas Urbig for his debut, which certainly isn’t good news going forward with Neuer set for a spell on the sidelines.
“It’s something muscular. The doctor hasn’t come to see me yet, which is always a good sign,” sporting director Max Eberl said.
“It’s a shame for us but we’ve always talked about the team. That’s how we got here, in the league and in this competition and it’s going to stay that way.
“If it’s Urbig, then it’s Urbig and we’re not worried about it at all.”
