Lyon’s John Textor and PSG’s Nasser Al-Khelaifi have long been at war, but rarely has it been so personal.
The pair of Ligue 1 club owners have regularly gone at each other in the media, with Textor citing PSG’s outrageous spending as detrimental to the league.
L’Equipe have since revealed messages between the pair, and Textor has responded to the story in classic fashion.
While Textor was working with his other club, Botofogo, he took aim at Al-Khelaifi in an interview and the Qatari billionaire reportedly sent the following letter.
You falsely claim that PSG has ‘a model of unbridled and unrestricted spending’, while you seem to ignore the fact that your own club has had significant problems with UEFA and the DNCG under your leadership. We will not waste any more time dissecting the flaws and contradictions of your savage attacks on PSG.
L’Equipe follow up with WhatsApp messages between the two in which Al-Khelaifi says: “I will never speak to you again and I don’t want to see you anymore. Learn to run a club and the media, this is the last time I’ll let you talk to me.”
Textor replied: “I am comfortable with your decision. You always say that you are saving everyone, which is nothing but megalomaniac behaviour. The lack of parity in our championship destroys the attractiveness of the league. Do you think that PSG’s advertising inserts, during an OL match, are appropriate?”
Al-Khelaifi then finished: “You don’t understand anything about football, and I’m wasting my time talking to you. You will lose wherever you go.”
Al-Khelaifi may have thought that was the end of the conversation, however, his comment about ‘losing wherever he goes’ was jumped upon by Textor.
The American won one of the biggest trophies in world sport on November 30th as his Botafogo side claimed the Copa Libertadores for the first time.
Textor posted an image of himself with the trophy, and the WhatsApp screenshot, and even tagged PSG in the Instagram photo.
