Luis Enrique has taken full responsibility for Gigi Donnarumma’s impending PSG departure, but that hasn’t done much to quell the anger.
The European treble winner has been cast aside following the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille, and alluded to it being the coaches choice in a statement where he said: “Someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group.”
Luis Enrique has now confirmed that it was down to him, telling the media: “I am 100% responsible.
“Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. However, this is the life of a top-level footballer.
“I am 100% responsible for this difficult decision. If it were easy, anyone would do it. These decisions have to do with the profile of the goalkeeper my team needs.”
Responding to the news, Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, said: “To dismiss Gianluigi Donnarumma after what he has done for the club is a huge lack of respect.
“A month ago, we were talking about renewing his contract, it’s strange that in one month, the coach has changed his mind about Gianluigi as a player.
“That’s what saddens me the most and makes me think that in the end, it was better not to renew his contract.”
