Luis Enrique took down Unai Emery again on the pitch, and left him reeling after.
The PSG head coach was the architect of Emery’s biggest humiliation back in 2017 when he beat the Paris side 6-1 from 4-0 down with his Barcelona side, and this time he edged past his Aston Villa.
Despite being big spenders in the Premier League, Villa can’t boast the finances of Qatar side PSG and Luis Enrique may have sensed that in a post-match question.
Speaking to Movistar in Spain, reporter Mónica Marchante finished by saying: “You just gave Unai Emery a hug. I suppose he deserves a few words for what he’s done with Aston Villa, getting this far and coming within one goal of forcing extra time.”
LS replied: “Well… I think I deserve the recognition…
“Just like him and the Spanish coaches around the world trying to carry out our ideas. From here on… respect for everyone.
“What interests us is competing at our best and giving our idea of what football is all about. And in that sense, Unai, like all the Spanish coaches around the world, are trying to carry out our idea.”
Reacting to the comments when speaking to the studio, Marchante said: “Either Luis Enrique has not understood the question or the answer is surprising.”
