PSV Eindhoven won the Lucas Perez sweepstakes at the weekend, signing the highly-rated free-agent winger ahead of a number of Spanish sides.
The 36-year-old was available after leaving his boyhood club, Deportivo La Coruna, and eventually opted for the Eredivisie despite interest from across Spain.
Spain would have been easier, too, given that Perez is afraid of flying and makes long-distance trips by car or van.
Northwest Spain is a whole 1000 miles from central Netherlands and Marca report that Perez did his usual drive. Thankfully for the player, his new country is so small that away games should be a doddle.
Perez is joining a side in the Champions League and through to the last 16, but he won’t be making those away trips as he missed out on registration for the final rounds.
That’s a shame for nostalgia fans, as PSV’s next opponent is Arsenal, who Perez played for from 2016 to 2018.
