Lionel Messi has said he expects Argentina’s final home game of World Cup qualifying to be his last in his home country.
The 2022 winning captain made the statement after booking a spot in the Leagues Cup final with Inter Miami.
Defending champions Argentina have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, but have two matches left to play, one away against Ecuador and one at home against Venezuela which Messi expects to be his last in front of a home crowd.
“Yes, it’s going to be special, it’s going to be a very special game for me because it’s the last game of qualifying,” the Barcelona legend said.
“I don’t know if there will be friendlies or more matches after that.
“My family will be with me, my wife, my children, my parents. We’re going to experience it that way. I don’t know what will happen after that, but that’s what we’re going to do,”
