Two years after allegedly being thrown out the PSG door by Luis Enrique, Marco Verratti has insisted that wasn’t the case.
The Italian was one of those cut by the Spanish coach ahead of a new era which ended with their first Champions League earlier this year.
Reports at the time suggested Luis Enrique saw Verratti as an example of what he didn’t want, and told him that, but the midfielder denied that while playing out in Qatar.
“They wrote that I left PSG because Luis Enrique wanted me to. That’s false!” he told La Gazzetta.
“I assure you that my conversation with Nasser Al-Khelaifi goes back much further. At the time, I told him that I was leaving because I was looking for new challenges.
“In Paris, winning had become monotonous, repetitive.”
Verratti did win a lot as well, 30 trophies in fact, with his nine Ligue 1 crowns an all-time record.
Marquinhos has since passed that tally with 10, but it’s not clear whether he’s bored yet.
