Kevin De Bruyne appears to have taken one of the holiest numbers in football at Napoli, and not everyone is happy.
The Manchester City legend completed a free transfer to the Serie A champions, joining one of Europe’s best-supported teams.
Yet in his first training session he’s caused some controversy.
Video and images have emerged from his first day on the job which show him with the number 10 on his shorts.
That number hasn’t been used since the all-time sporting icon Diego Maradona left in 1991.
Maradona took Napoli to their first two Scudetti and cemented his status as arguably the greatest to ever do it.
De Bruyne is arguably their biggest signing since given the context that he’s still one of the world’s best and could’ve earned far more in the US or Saudi.
De Bruyne has yet to officially be given his number, but previously wore #17 with City and #7 with the Belgian national team.
Both of those are currently occupied at Napoli by Mathías Olivera and David Neves respectively.
Imagines of De Bruyne with the 10 have sparked heated debate among fans, which may make the social media activity the perfect testing ground before deciding on his full time number.
