One of the most impressive things about Jude Bellingham’s start to life at Real Madrid is he’s been playing with only one arm.
The midfield superstar has been the revelation of the season, winning the Champions League, LaLiga and the Supercopa de Espana. He also finished fourth in Spain’s scoring charts despite never previously being relied upon for goals.
What makes those achievements all the more astonishing is when you look at Bellingham in the 2-0 Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund and notice he’s still got his left shoulder heavily strapped up.
That addition comes from a dislocated shoulder he suffered against Rayo Vallecano on November 5, and it’s been with him ever since.
Bellingham only missed a handful of games at the time, but he could soon miss many more with Cadena SER reporting that surgery is a distinct possibility.
The Spanish outlet claims that Bellingham has been playing through pain ever since the initial injury, and things have only got worse in the final stretch of the season. Bellingham, though, ever the warrior, played through it due to his importance for Real.
He’s willing to do the same again for Euro 2024 favourites England, but after that, he could spend as much as three months on the sidelines.
Cadena SER claim that if an initial conservative treatment doesn’t work, Bellingham will be forced to go under the knife, taking him out of action until at least October.
The outlet reports: “The reality is that the English midfielder can no longer cope with the pain and, if it does not subside during the Euros, he will be forced to undergo surgery despite knowing that the most immediate consequences are not making preseason with his club and also missing the start of LaLiga.
“Therefore, the news is that Jude Bellingham, if his shoulder discomfort does not improve during the Euros, will undergo surgery and will miss the start of the season with Real Madrid, although for that to happen, we have to wait for what happens in this month.”
