In his attempt to deflect LaLiga’s latest cash grab, Javier Tebas has rather bizarrely tried to deflect onto Real Madrid.
The league president was forced to speak out about the outrage caused by Barcelona playing a domestic league game against Villarreal in the US in December.
Real Madrid were one of those to speak out with a public statement, and Tebas responded by saying it’s no different to Los Blancos giving new signing Franco Mastantuono the No.30 shirt as it’s not in the league’s rules to do so with a first team player.
“That’s not the case that we’re suffering from ‘integritis’,” he said.
“This doesn’t affect the integrity of the competition. Madrid has fielded a player with the number 30 jersey, and he’s never going to play for the reserve team, and this affects the integrity?”
He added: “In Italy, they want to go. In France, too. The Spanish Super Cup went to Saudi Arabia… I don’t see the problem.
“It’s becoming bigger than it is. What Fernando Roig said seems very accurate to me. Either we do things or we’ll become irrelevant. We’re only talking about one game out of 380 in the First Division.
“I’m convinced it will be played this season. It’s not among the key objectives. The clubs have voluntarily requested to play this match. Now we have to go through UEFA and FIFA.”
