Harry Kane has been forced to comment after Lamine Yamal ruled him out of the Ballon d’Or.
The Spanish World Cup winner appears to have twice dismissed Kane, most recently saying there are different prizes for the player who scored the most goals.
Before that, he insisted that the best two players in the world are himself and Kylian Mbappe.
Given Kane is still the betting favourite and has talked up winning the award, it was naturally a topic after he netted another two goals for Bayern Munich in a 7-0 win over Union Berlin.
Kane responds to Lamine Yamal
“I don’t know what he meant,” he said. “Yamal is an incredible player. He’s had a great season, just like many others.
“Mbappe, Michael (Olise), Rodri . There are many candidates.”
Keeping things diplomatic, he added: “Everyone has the right to express themselves as they wish. That’s not my responsibility.
“I don’t really like talking about myself; I prefer to let my actions on the pitch speak for themselves.
“I’m just going to wait and see what happens. I’ll just keep doing my thing on the pitch.”
While Lamine hasn’t mentioned Kane directly, his latest comments certainly seemed pointed at the 72-goal England captain.

Lamine explains why Kane shouldn’t win the Ballon d’Or
He told Movistar: “The Ballon d’Or is being valued differently now.
“When Messi and Cristiano were the best in the world, everyone knew they were, so the award was shared between them.
“The problem now is that people are valuing things that aren’t relevant to the Ballon d’Or. For example, when they say a PSG player has to win it because they won the Champions League.
“When you win the Champions League, PSG, the best team, gets the Champions League award, and that’s the award PSG has. It’s a different matter if the best player in the world plays for PSG.
Seemingly turning to Kane, he continued: “I think that award should go to the best player in the world, period.
“Not to a player who’s scored 80 goals, because when you score 80 goals, you get the ‘top scorer’ award. These are very different things that people aren’t understanding.
“The best player in the world is the one you, as a commentator, are watching and enjoying; you see him, he’s a very different player from everyone else.
“When the focus returns to that and the best player is recognised, then the award should be given to the best player in the world, period.
“”If the player in the world is the best, not the one who scores the most goals or the one who has won the most titles, then the award will regain its true value.”
