Footballers want to play every single game, unless you’re Barcelona’s Gavi.
The midfielder was called to come on and close out the 7-1 win over Valencia at the weekend, but instead asked head coach Hansi Flick to substitute teammate Pablo Torre.
Pictures after the game showed Gavi being called over by Flick in the 78th minute and after a brief chat Flick grinned and pinched the youngster’s cheek.
Torre has been lacking minutes this season, but has still managed an impressive four goals and three assists in 12 games.
With the game gone and Torre a back-up option in LaLiga, Gavi thought his teammate deserved a runout, and the manager agreed.
Despite all the positives of a commanding victory, Flick was later asked for his favourite moment from the match and opted to credit Gavi.
“The situation that impressed me the most was when I spoke to Gavi,” he said.
“I wanted to bring him on for the last 15 minutes, and he said no, to put Pablo Torre on. That’s incredible, it’s great.
“You can see how the team, how the players are connected to each other. It’s fantastic. For a coach it’s incredible. I love Gavi. I love that attitude.
“He wants to play every game but to talk like that in this situation is great, it’s top.”
