A mural of Spanish World Cup winner Ferran Torres was destroyed just hours after it was completed.
Torres scored the winning goal in extra time against Argentina to become a national legend.
Valencian Torres plays for Barcelona, and local artist ‘TvBoy’ painted a mural of him kissing the World Cup trophy in his Spain shirt.
However, Cadena SER report that it only lasted a few hours before being covered in white paint and replaced with separatist messages.
They read: “Puta Espanya” (F**k Spain) and “Volem seleccions catalanes!” (We want a Catalan national team!)
The artwork was located in the popular Barcelona neighborhood of Gràcia, on Escorial Street, very close to Plaça Joanic.
TvBoy posted the defaced work on his social media and said he won’t be deterred from making similar work in the future.
Ferran Torres pays tribute to Spanish fans
Speaking after his World Cup-winning goal, Torres paid tribute to the unity Spain had shown.
“The goal belonged to 47 million people,” he said. “It wasn’t mine, nor the 26 of us here. Destiny had it written. It was meant to be our victory.
“All finals are difficult; with Messi on the opposing team, there’s always nervousness. We’ve always depended on ourselves and playing our own game, and today we proved that.
“I have been heavily criticised throughout the World Cup, but destiny is written and God always gives things to those who deserve them most.
“Each of us has had our moments during the tournament. It’s been a tough World Cup on a personal level. I left everything in God’s hands, and He gave me this goal today.
“We’re not fully aware of what we’ve just achieved. I just want to grab the trophy and squeeze it.”
