Someone check on Francesco Totti.
The World Cup winner and AS Roma icon has rather incredibly talked up a Serie A return seven years after retiring.
One of the game’s great number 10s, Totti called it quits at the age of 40 after spending his entire career in the Italian capital as Roma’s greatest-ever player.
Now, just a few weeks after his 48th birthday, he reckons he could still hack it in Serie A.
Speaking at a betting company’s event, perhaps indicating the real intent behind his comments, he said: “There were Serie A teams that called me.
“I admit that they made me think a little, a little crazy. It would be difficult, but in life you never say never.
“There are players who have played many years after the end of their career. It also depends on where you play, with all due respect, but if I were to return to Serie A I would have to train really well.
“With the level of today’s Serie A I could easily have my say on the pitch, there are no number 10s in Serie A today.
“I would have to train well, but in two or three months I would be ready.”
