Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has come under attack from Irene Montero, one of the leaders of Podemos, who were in power from 2019 to 2023.
Perez, the long-time Madrid president and father of two Galactico high-spending eras, has come under fire from multiple angles after the club’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Manchester City.
Perez was seen in his VIP box at the Bernabeu with seven government ministers, a perceived show of power that’s already been condemned by LaLiga president Javier Tebas.
Further adding to the criticism, Montero, a former member of parliament for Madrid, attacked the 77-year-old in a speech in the Basque Country.
She said: “The problem with going to the Real Madrid box is not that you like football, it is not even that you are left-wing and from Real Madrid, there are many people from the left and from Real Madrid.
“The problem with the Real Madrid box is the ostentation of Florentino Pérez.
“Without standing for election he commands more than any minister. That is the problem with the box, that you go to the Bernabéu box to kneel in front of Florentino Pérez.
“Florentino allows himself the luxury of explaining to all of Spain, live and direct, that he is in charge enough to slap the mayor of Madrid and to have seven socialist ministers in his box.”
