Atletico Madrid legend Filipe Luis has discussed the greatest player he ever faced – Lionel Messi.
The pair battled on the same touchline for over a decade in Spain, with the now-retired Brazilian coming out on top on occasion.
More often than not, though, it was Messi who won the duel, and Atleti’s manager wouldn’t even address him before matches.
“When we played against Barça. Simeone didn’t say the name ‘Messi’ not to scare our players,” he revealed.
“He just said ‘El enano’ [the dwarf].”
Discussing his experience of facing Messi, Filipe Luis added: “He’s crazy. He is, by far, the best player I have faced.
“I was concentrating hard to beat him, I watched all Messi’s matches from 2006 to 2016, really, all of them. It was to enjoy watching football.”
