Emmanuel Emegha has responded to his one-game Strasbourg suspension for failing to respect club values.
The club announced the suspension for this weekend’s clash against Toulouse, and it came as a shock with Emegha their best player and captain, while no explanation was given.
L’Equipe now claim that it was over some interview comments that didn’t go down well at the club, despite many finding them funny.
In one post-match he joked that Strasbourg only lose when he’s injured, and in another he said he didn’t know if the club was in France or Germany.
Now responding to his suspension, the Dutchman said: “I accept and understand the club’s decision to suspend me for this weekend.
“I’m 22 years old, I’ve made mistakes, and I know I still have a lot to learn.
“I have to learn from this. I know I have to do better, and I will do better, both on and off the pitch, to represent the club. That’s important to me.”
He added: “I want to make it clear that I never intended to hurt anyone.
“Last weekend when I walked onto the pitch, it was the greatest emotion I’ve ever experienced as a Strasbourg player. The applause when I came on, the children encouraging me during the warm-up… it really touched me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“Sometimes my words can be misunderstood, especially if people don’t know me.
“But one thing is certain: I have the utmost respect for Strasbourg, for Alsace, for the Meinau stadium and our supporters, for my teammates and for the entire club.
“On Saturday, I will be behind the team like a 200% supporter.”
