Diego Simeone is certain that Thibaut Courtois played his part in the Madrid derby being stopped by objects thrown on the pitch.
The 1-1 draw was paused in the 66th minute following Eder Militao’s opener as fans threw lighters, plastic bags, and numerous other objects towards Real Madrid‘s Courtois.
The Belgian, who previously played for Atleti, was seen goading supporters after the goal, something Simeone believes he should be held responsible for.
“The club will have to make a decision,” he said. “We don’t need those people, but that doesn’t justify creating the situations that we’ve seen.
“As the protagonists, we can help to prevent this from happening. People don’t react just for the sake of reacting, they do it for a reason.
“We can also start to punish the protagonists. It doesn’t justify it, but be careful with what we trigger. We must punish the one who provokes and the one who throws the lighter.”
