If a 4-0 defeat to Benfica wasn’t enough for Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid coach also had some awkward chants directed at him.
Benfica ran riot at Estadio da Luz with Angel Di Maria the star of the show in the shock result.
Simeone was left humiliated, with the Spanish press destroying him for his decision to take off Antoine Griezmann, Rodrigo De Paul and Koke at half-time when the score was 1-0.
There was also more humiliation from the home crowd, who began chanting the name of their prodigy Joao Felix throughout the thumping.
Felix left Benfica for Atleti in 2019 and became the fourth-most expensive transfer of all time at €127million.
It didn’t work out at all for him in Madrid, though, with him insulting Simeone while on loan at Barcelona, later returning before a permanent move to Chelsea.
Benfica coach Bruno Lage was seen asking the crowd to stop on occasion, but those in attendance very much enjoyed the attack on Simeone, including Felix’s brother, Hugo.
The Benfica B player posted a video on Instagram with the words “What a beautiful thing.”
