Dick Advocaat’s name is again being linked with Feyenoord amid a dire start to the season.
The Eredivisie side have won two and drawn two of their easy opening fixtures, piling the pressure on new coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The former defender himself has coached Feyenoord previously, but Advocaat was mooted last season as an interim.
In fact, he joined the club in an advisory capacity with Robin van Persie flailing in the role.
Advocaat linked to emergency Feyenoord role
“I don’t know if Dick would want to step back in,” said Dutch pundit René van der Gijp. “But Cor Pot certainly would.”
He continued: “You bring in a goalkeeper from Germany [Tjark Ernst] and then every shot on target goes in.
“Robin van Persie couldn’t really explain what needed to be done after a poor result, but neither can Van Bronckhorst. Of course, they are largely the same players.”
Advocaat took the Feyenoord advisory role last season following his daughter’s ill-health.
He stepped away from the Curacao national team to spend more time with her, but thankfully she drastically improved.
As such, the veteran returned to Curacao and led them at their first-ever World Cup.
Advocaat’s contract has expired, but he hasn’t officially left the job.
Advocaat could stay as Curacao coach
“I still need a bit more time for that,” he said in an interview with Curacao.nu.
“There is no lack of motivation. You can see that now with the World Cup, that you want to see everything. And in that way, you are still involved with your own team.”
Association Chairman Gilbert Martina was asked if there would be a new coach, and he replied: “I didn’t say that. The announcement will be made public in early August.
“The appointment or dismissal of a national coach is a board matter that must be handled by means of a formal board resolution. Dick’s contract runs until July 31.”
That deadline has now passed, and the future coach hasn’t been outlined.
