Is Simon Mignolet the most intelligent man in the world? We’ll never know.
The current Club Brugge and former Liverpool goalkeeper was due to appear on the final of the hit Belgian TV show, but has since cancelled.
Mignolet speaks four languages (French, English, Dutch, German) and has a degree in political science from the University of Louvain.
His smarts saw him make it all the way to the final of the TV show, but he’s now pulled out due to scheduling.
In a statement, he said: “Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the final of ‘The Most Intelligent Man in the World’.
“There are very important matches coming up with my club in the Champions League and the Championship.
“I would have liked to participate in the show but my job remains to be a footballer.”
Club Brugge are second in the Belgian Pro League, four points behind leaders Genk, while they’re 22nd in the Champions League, which would qualify them for the play-offs.
Mignolet returned to his native Belgium in 2019 after stints with Liverpool and Sunderland.
