Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t a happy man after his team’s 3-0 Champions League win over Brest.
Madrid secured victory away in France but it wasn’t enough for the last 16, meaning a play-off tie is up next.
Asked about a bonkers final day where all 36 teams were in action, the five-time winner was short on compliments.
“I don’t like the new format. There are too many games,” the Italian said. “We need to remove games to reduce the wear and tear on the players, not add more.”
In a short press conference, he then identified the second thing he’s unhappy about this year in Europe.
Madrid will player either Manchester City or Celtic in the next round and Ancelotti has a clear preference.
“We have to wait for the draw. In theory, if we play against City, it will be more complicated,” he said.
“We don’t like playing against Manchester City, it’s difficult. It’s a shame that we didn’t wake up earlier in this competition.”
