African football’s governing body, CAF, have given Samuel Eto’o a four game ban and $20,000 fine after Cameroon’s AFCON exit.
Eto’o, president of the Cameroon football federation [FECAFOOT] was widely reported to have been seen furiously gesturing at his opposite number at Morocco, Fouzi Lekjaa, after his side were knocked out in the quarter-finals.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe was also nearby when the scenes were filmed by onlookers.
FECAFOOT put out a statement acknowledging the suspension and fine, but raised their concerns over procedures.
“FECAFOOT has taken note of the decision from the disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African Football to suspend its president along with a $20,000 fine, but it lacks any explicit justification,” the body wrote.
“FECAFOOT further notes that the expedited procedure leading to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair trial.
“FECAFOOT reaffirms its unwavering support for its president and its commitment to upholding the principles governing credible disciplinary justice.”
